Glancing at some Thursday morning headlines as yes, professional baseball players do deserve to make that much money.  comment »

Fourth Forecast. Hot and maybe a little wet. (Look at all those lightning bolts)  comment »

Old Crow Medicine Show's new-era bluegrass is winning fans. 'After spending a few years on the road in the van, they decided to re-settle in the mountains of Boone, N.C., where they lived for two years in a cabin without electricity and learned how to do things like make banjos out of soup cans.'  comment »

Rice praises Christian groups in China quake response. '"I am delighted and just moved to be here with Samaritan's Purse, providing clean water for the residents," said Rice.'  comment »

Viewbook Diversity vs. Real Diversity. 'George Dehne, who runs an eponymous admissions consulting firm, said that it is unfortunate that colleges try to portray themselves as having more black students than they do, but he sees it all the time. “We tell colleges that it’s a mistake and they shouldn’t do it, but we get overruled,” he said. “Sometimes you see the same black kid in every picture,” he said.'  comment »

Asheville Street Theater: Make a human cart snake at Wally World (and don't buy anything). We wish we had this much free time.  comment »

Crawdads the only game in town for fireworks. In Hickory, that is.  comment »

Easley named 'America's Greatest Education Governor'. He pushed More for Four, but was more Lean for Teens. (He means well so let's just ignore those drop out rates)  comment »

State Health Plan head abruptly fired. 'Holliman said lawmakers had expected a $50 million surplus in the plan, but discovered last week that there was a $65 million deficit. He said it would not affect the state budget for the current fiscal year that began on Monday, but would need to be dealt with in next year's state budget.' (Uhhhhh .. now why exactly is it not impacting this year's budget?)  comment »

Provost: Easley has 'unmatched experience'. The wife of Gov. Mike Easley 'got a pay increase of $79,000 on Tuesday. Her new salary as a executive in residence and senior lecturer in the provost's office at N.C. State University will be $170,000.' (Let's not forget the 'free' vacations)  comment »

Blogger catches Justice Kennedy with his pants down. 'A military law blog pointed out over the weekend that Congress, in fact, revised the sex crimes section of the Uniform Code of Military Justice in 2006 to add child rape to the military death penalty.' (Like Kennedy really cared about facts)  comment »

Now let’s not ruin a record by including competitive games. 'But App State gave LSU a helluva better game than most I-As. And in T-minus 59 days and counting, they should get another one.'  comment »
