Glancing at some Tuesday morning headlines as 'yes we can' get this call.  comment »

Provisional votes could sway race. 'The question is whether voters cast enough of those ballots in the 5th District for Hamby, a Statesville businesswoman, to overtake Carter, a tree farmer and retired teacher who lives in Glendale Springs.'  comment »

Formal request expected on mixed drink referendum. Any Liquor by the Drink vote will come in June at the earliest. There's also this, 'Changes to Chapter 97 of the municipal code would prohibit smoking in all town parks, playgrounds and sidewalks in front of town buildings, as well as in municipal vehicles.' (We await the inevitable decree that all smokers be shot on sight)  comment »

Say 'No' to mixed-drink proposal. 'This group, largely made up of downtown restaurant & business owners, claims to "represent a broad base of local businesses." I believe that it is no accident the group failed to include anyone from law enforcement, the medical community, or local clergy on their "task force." These professions would be best suited to address the negative impact liquor by the drink would have on our town.' (Here's one change this citizen doesn't want)  1 comment »

Charter Communications: Cash Crunch? All that debt gonna burn you up.  comment »

Cigarettes, booze for teachers, mental health. 'Easley's budget, a 4.2 percent increase from the previous year, would add a 4 percent tax to beer and wine and a 4 percent tax to liquor to pay for a $68 million fix to the state's failing mental health system.' (First lottery tickets, now this. Call him the Prey on the Poor Governor)  comment »

US has April surplus but budget strained. More evidence our economy is in the tank.  comment »

Big Ten wants our help getting bigger. Everybody wants the secrets of ASU coach Jerry Moore.  comment »

Knock, knock, knocking on fourth-place's door. ASU surging with one more week to go before Southern Conference baseball tournament.  comment »
