Drought is officially over, but what have we learned? Latest report has Watauga County with 20 other counties in 'Moderate' drought. Only 12 counties, including Caldwell, in 'Extreme' drought.  comment » 

County and Tweetsie may go into special partnership. 'The county would buy land to support the theme park in exchange for a long-term commitment to keep the business operating. The county would also provide marketing money over the next six years, with Tweetsie agreeing to add $13 million worth of park improvements.' (It's either this or move to Wilkes)  comment » 

Six projects in area will get grants from state group. 'Ashe County will receive $250,000 to renovate the old WPA Hospital in Jefferson, which has been vacant since 2002. The project will transform the hospital into a boutique hotel and restaurant, leading to the creation of 25 full-time jobs, the center said.'  comment » 

ASU receives $120,000 for energy projects. 'ASU will use $15,000 to install energy-efficicient lighting at the Broyhill Inn and Conference Center, which is expected to save about $21,000 a year in utility costs. Energy-efficient lighting will also be installed in Duncan Hall, with the university matching $15,000 awarded from the state.'  comment »
