Drought is officially over, but what have we learned? Latest report has Watauga County with 20 other counties in 'Moderate' drought. Only 12 counties, including Caldwell, in 'Extreme' drought.
County and Tweetsie may go into special partnership. 'The county would buy land to support the theme park in exchange for a long-term commitment to keep the business operating. The county would also provide marketing money over the next six years, with Tweetsie agreeing to add $13 million worth of park improvements.' (It's either this or move to Wilkes)
Six projects in area will get grants from state group. 'Ashe County will receive $250,000 to renovate the old WPA Hospital in Jefferson, which has been vacant since 2002. The project will transform the hospital into a boutique hotel and restaurant, leading to the creation of 25 full-time jobs, the center said.'
ASU receives $120,000 for energy projects. 'ASU will use $15,000 to install energy-efficicient lighting at the Broyhill Inn and Conference Center, which is expected to save about $21,000 a year in utility costs. Energy-efficient lighting will also be installed in Duncan Hall, with the university matching $15,000 awarded from the state.'
